Disappointed

Dream Catchers sets out to be a sweeping sci fi fantasy adventure for children but unfortunately falls short in several key areas The prose is overly simplistic and the pacing feels rushed making it difficult to become fully immersed in the story
One of the most distracting elements is the inconsistent world building Characters bear everyday names like Adam despite living on an alien planet with no clear ties to Earth This disconnect makes the setting feel underdeveloped rather than imaginative Adding to the confusion is the mention of things like fish fingers a very specific food that feels like a direct nod to Doctor Who but is oddly out of place in a supposedly otherworldly environment
The writing often reads like a child’s English project with simplistic sentence structure and a lack of narrative depth This style might appeal to very young readers but will likely frustrate anyone looking for a more engaging or polished story
While the book does explore themes such as friendship identity and love these are presented in a surface level manner without the depth or nuance that would give them weight Even for a younger audience the characters and their relationships may feel underdeveloped
In the end Dream Catchers is an ambitious idea let down by weak execution It may appeal to readers who enjoy light fast paced fantasy but it lacks the originality and cohesion needed to make a lasting impression
